A friend of mine, knowing of my emotional state these days, brought me a truly thoughtful Christmas card.
What makes this so extraordinary is that he really does not understand why I am so distraught, so anxious and afraid, but wanted to let me know that he and his family were ready to help and, well, just be there. That was the real gift.
And it's what I must keep in mind and heart - Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-60111997274703229932016-12-17T11:07:00.000-05:002016-12-17T11:07:11.677-05:00Forget Santa - this year's list goes to the Electors

As bleak as I feel
I've been busy (occupied?) since my last post. I'm hanging onto my emotional roller-coaster with both hands and when the dips go down to fast and too deep, I remind myself there is always wine in the 'fridge.
I've getting more and more PRO-active than RE-active. I am very into Twitter now, especially in the political arena. I have no center since the election and cannot find any motivation to put up entries about cooking, gardening, household doings. Holidays, health issues, none of it seem to matter anymore. Without a future to look forward to, all my todays are in limbo.

The tree people that took down the front green ash trees left and never came back to finish the job.
I finally had to ask my friend to take down the dead blue ash in the backyard.
He came yesterday and began the process.
It was so painful to watch.
So much has gone wrong this past month and I am having a great deal of trouble trying to process everything.

An open appeal to the Electoral College who will vote for president December 19.

I went to bed in the land of inclusiveness, unity, freedom and hope.
This morning (no sleep) I found myself shaken to my core. And terrified.
We have film and recordings of every vile threat he's made in the past 2 years. (Until he deletes it all.)

The view from the deck across the backyard and into the golf course is quite beautiful. The leaves are turning right fast now. And next week I'm turning 70. Yep, that's right fast too. Eeek. How did THAT sneak up on me?
Today is election day. I urge everyone to get out and vote. Previously this month 2 neighbors had to have dead/dying ash trees removed.
Yesterday was my and my next door neighbor's turn.
Her green ash was monster huge, larger even than the adjoining ancient oak. But size and spendor succumbed to the *&#$@ emerald ash borer.
It took a many men and very large machines to bring it down.
Then it was on to my 2 front green ash trees.

We've had mild (coolish side) days and some brisk nights dipping into the high 30s. Last night it dipped a little lower:
There is also a very light frost. Will be interesting how the annuals fared later in the day.

Really?Seems I just posted a couple of weeks ago. Oh dear. I guess I'll stop looking at the watch and start looking at the calendar. Time goes so fast anymore.
It was a long, busy, stressful, summer with highs and lows, things broke, things got (mostly) fixed. Some things got planted out, some have spent the summer on the deck where it was easier to water. Health issues. This year's growth is amazing, the bugs *knock wood* are few, and the lack of rain has helped keep mildew, mosaic and rust at bay.

Seems it may last a while longer. Just wanted to assure everyone (both of you) that I'm OK. Just unmotivated right now.
I have tons of interesting posts in mind. Hopefully they will be realized soon.
Happy summer. Stay cool. And if you have any extra rain -- SEND IT HERE!

After weeks and weeks of promised rain, two storms FINALLY delivered yesterday.
Early in the day we got .25" - not much, but it was the first rain in 2 weeks.
Then, while out shopping with Mom, another larger storm hit and it had a bigger punch!
I now have 5 full barrels of rainwater. Could've been 6 if I'd gotten home sooner.
But this morning, outside, overcast, warm and MOIST air.&Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-89093836895538369142016-06-08T10:32:00.001-04:002016-06-08T10:32:39.329-04:00Still hanging in there...Long time, no post. I've been very busy between my garden, Mom's garden, Dr.'s appts, household repairs, etc. I've done a lot - yet I have not been able to feel any sense of accomplishment. Usually doing things gives me a boost, allowing me to do more. Not this Spring. I think my spring has sprung.
And lately I've been dealing with some kind of 'spell' : Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-15209611111577081392016-05-30T17:47:00.003-04:002016-05-30T17:47:47.996-04:00Too pooped to post
Sorry for the silence, but I've been too busy and too tired at the end of the day to even make a coherent sentence.
I'm beginning to forget all the things I've done lately. Luckily, I take my trusty camera with me so I can remember why I'm so knackered these days.
More posts to come -- when we get a rainy day. (Who knows how long that will be.)
Hang in there. I'm sure Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-7515290046082709382016-05-21T08:44:00.000-04:002016-05-21T08:44:11.229-04:00A nice rain
Plants in the rain - seedlings under screen
I was up early and sat in the sunroom with a steamy mug of tea, a fragrant candle burning on the table and enjoyed the rain on the roof. Such a calming sound.
A nice rain. No wind. No storm. No drama. Just nice and steady. It's stopped now with about 3/4" in the rain gauge.
Looks like a good 'down/inside' day for me after Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-44325668948597378332016-05-15T08:36:00.001-04:002016-05-16T07:02:02.517-04:00The domino effect
Dang it's cold this morning! Right at the freeze - and yesterday's rain on the deck froze last night on the edges. There are SNOW FLURRIES northwest of here this morning and the wind is bitter. Only mid-40s today and tonight probably into 20s. What a pain.
At least I got some stuff done this past week while the temps were more moderate and in between rainy Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-47328959794052333662016-05-05T15:21:00.002-04:002016-05-05T15:21:52.035-04:00Between rainy days...... stuff is getting done.
Since I'm started fewer things every year, it's takes very little time to bring up the basement sprouts and plants. (Only 4 flats of annuals are left under lights downstairs right now.)

Finally, some deck action. Now that the deck has had 4 days to cure/seal and several rainfalls to sluice off, I got around and made the effort to make the deck look more appealing. I put up the fountain (no water yet), set up the bistro set, hauled up the back bench for some of the overwintered plants, and gave the also overwintered geraniums front and center on the newly painted Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17822528453563683772noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7196958089933062632.post-1862956926034881852016-04-24T10:39:00.002-04:002016-04-24T10:39:55.683-04:00Tardy postI was going to put up an entry early last week, but on Monday night Mom called. She was sick. Tuesday to the doctor and found she had another (milder) case of bronchitis. So this time we kinda knew what to do: a nebulizer treatment at the doctor's office, steroid pills and inhaler for home (and by home I mean HERE at my house). Cough pills and lots of tissues.

If the forecast is to be belived, we may have finally turned a corner weatherwise.
The past 2 weeks were hard on all the plants that had been lulled into "spring" by March's persistent above-average temps.
