Feeling BLUE and lovin' it!

I've mentioned before that I do not treat my lawn. Heck, I scarcely mow it. LOL

I thought you might enjoy a look at what benign neglect can wrought. These spring violets and mini violas are just lovely, especially when punctuated with bright dandelions. I really enjoy the show. And as the weeks progress, the color palette will change as other wild and untamed 'weeds' strut their stuff.

Here's something I've always wondered about. When the lawn gets away from me, instead of letting all that cut grass lay on top of the lawn and turn brown and nasty, what would happen if I took the time to actually bag up an acre of grass? Well, it looks like this:

Now, what's a gal to do with all this WEALTH of bio-degradable material? Stay tuned....

  1. They really do look pretty! Like a mini wild flower field. I wouldn't mow it either.

  2. Catherine: Pictures just don't do justice! The best way to see it is to just stand there in the middle of it all. :-D

I should take a picture from the deck. You can see the obvious demarcation between my 'meadow' lawn and the neighbor's regularly sprayed grass. The difference is like night and day (or, rather, green and blue!).

  3. Hey Kris, love to see you in the garden again!
I'm waiting to see what you do with the cut grass. I have them, too, but normally I just put them in a corner of the garden and... forget them. Maybe I should go out and take a look.

  4. Oh I love a freshly mowed lawn, but I agree, the beauty of one that has been neglected can also be a treat! Don't those little purple blooms look so pretty with the dandelions! If only they weren't so darned invasive, I might just add them to my garden on purpose!!!

Can't wait to see what you do with your grass clippings...we always have a ton and I never know what to do about it.

  5. Hi PPQ. If you check out the very next blog post, you'll see that I made a new flower bed out of them (click on the "privacy bed" link). Honestly, if you read all the 'invasive' sites for each state, most everything seems to be 'invasive' somewhere...:-(

  6. I would LOVE to have a "meadow lawn"! If my lawn had all those cool wildflowers in it, I would'nt mow it either!

  7. USMC - I do enjoy it as much as the bees do. The pics just don't do justice to the spring blooms.
