Wrath of Kahn

I like it that the weather channel (for better or worse) is naming winter storms.  It DOES make it easier to identify those that have an impact locally.  It's a lot easier to say, "Yeah, Kahn dumped 8 inches of snow." vs "Remember in the 4th week of Jan, 2013 when we got that big storm - you know - the one before the heavy rains came and made a big mess and that snow caused a lot of flooding...."  (You get the gist.)

Anyway - Kahn dumped 5" over a 7-hour period yesterday which kept me busy sweeping/ shoveling off the deck during the event, and then another solid hour snow blowing the driveway when all was said and done.

Unfortunately, Kahn wasn't done having invoked some lake effect snow and I woke up to another 3" of this morning. . .

Oh well, what's a girl to do?  I'll have to do the driveway again.  *aarg*

I admit - the snow is GORGEOUS.  But, alas, it won't last.

We're supposed to get into the 50s after Sunday with rain.  All this beauty will turn into nothing but trouble. I hate rain on snow.  It's just the worse (except for ice storms - those are killer).

Anyway, beside shoveling and blowing snow, I spent some good time in the kitchen yesterday.

  1. The chili looks good - I haven't made that in a while. Today I am making a turkey dinner and inviting my kids over. That should warm up the house a little. Looking forward to seeing some sun tomorrow and then 40 degree temps on Wednesday before it dips back down to the teens.

    1. Oooh. Turkey.... *yum* Hope you and the kids have a good time. I'm with you, Bonnie - turkey isn't relegated just to the holidays! Wish we weren't getting a warm up, though. I'd rather have cold and snow in winter than warm and wet. Waay less headaches in the long run.

    2. I'm looking forward to driving on snow-free roads for a few days. We don't get rain and mud until springtime

    3. Oh, I'm truly with you on the clear roads and easy access, Bonnie. What I was whining about was a couple of days of rain on top of deep snow. That's the rub. We used to not get rain until March, but lately - as early as January. It's certainly not as picturesque... Enjoy those clear roads. :-D

  2. At least your forecast is for all the snow to be washed away, better than than it compacting and turning into ice. Take care with all the shovelling, don't hurt yourself.

None here, even though a few miles south of us got over 8" a couple of days ago.

    1. Thing is, we don't WANT the snow to melt. January rains = floods, roof leaks and river dams. We'd rather just keep this snow on the ground where it belongs this time of year. Our snow seldom, if ever, compacts into ice unless it's doused with freezing rain. I miss a 'normal' winter.

  3. All this naming of snow storms cracks me up. We've had a dusting of snow on Thursday and about 5 snowflakes on Friday so of course half the state shut down. I'm hoping for more! :o)

    1. 5 flakes? OMG - was anybody hurt? Are you OK? ;-D

There's so many sides to these storms. Look at Luna heading towards us - all pink and purple. These are the worse - ICE and SLEET. And falling on top of existing snow. Hope you get a big pass on THIS one too!
