Late this year....

.... but the Fat Lady finally showed up this morning and she's singing the blues.  Clear skies and bright moon allowed all that cold Canadian air in last night.

The growing season is officially over.  She's late.  Traditionally she's wailing around Oct 18th, but we got 6 extra days of annual blooms to enjoy this year.

There's weeks ahead of leaf wrangling and garden cleanup, but not today.  I think it's 'make a pot of soup' day, laze on the couch and catch up on some of my programs (yeah, we'll see how that goes *heh*).

So, let her sing.  I'm warm and dry and can now watch youtube vids thanks to faster Internet! :-D

Is your growing season over?  Or is it just getting started in your neck of the planet?

  1. Fall does give us more free time as the outdoor work slows down or is just plain finished. Shoveling snow is always there but the other stuff is done. I hope you soup tastes good.

    1. Thanks, Larry. Yeah, honestly I'm usually ready for closing things down outside and come in for a few months. There are lots of other things to do when you aren't always being head gardener. Decided against soup - working on a huge pot of stew. Boy the house smells good. :-D

  2. Ack!!! My thoughts EXACTLY on the pot of soup/stew. We're on the road right now heading towards home and it's been snowing like crazy. I told hubby it was supposed to WAIT for me to get home so I could brew a batch of soup and bake some bread--my official "opening act " for the winter season. Well, hopefully by the time we arrive home tomorrow it will still have some left in this system.
Happy Fall! It's gonna feel SO good to get to know the INSIDE of the house again!

    1. Oh, Sue. Be careful driving in that stuff! I can't believe the weather didn't wait for you to get home and open your act. We got some sleet a while ago, but the wind is changing and we're gonna get lake effect snow over the next day. Maybe I'll be baking right along with you. Be safe ... And welcome to the great indoors. :-)

  4. No ice and frost for us - summer is on the way. I'm going to miss my Rosie...

    Stay warm and toasty :)

    1. Oh, I'm sure Rosie will tempt you for cooking at least on cool days.... Looking forward to reading your garden/'spring' posts while we are tucking in for winter.

  5. I still have a few things blooming but we're headed for colder days. I'm just trying to get all my transplanting done before it gets really cold. My cut off is Nov. 15. Are you feeling better?

    1. Hey Tammy. :-D We've had freezing for the past 5 nights. It's toasted all the annuals so now I'll start pulling them out in prep for moving shredded leaves into the beds.

Overall I'm past all that horrible illness from late Spring, although right now every joint is painful for the past several weeks and I'm tired of hurting all the time. Been worse since my flu shot - a reaction maybe? Who knows.... Not my doctor, that's for sure. Ah well.... I keep moving.
