A taxing day

As predicted Monday night's rain turned to sleet by Tuesday dawn and within an hour it started to snow.

Temps went from 75 on Sunday to 28 Tues a.m.  (on it's way down to mid-teens overnight).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spring in Ohio is NOT for wimps!

I just hope that I won't lose all the magnolia buds/blooms like last year.  *sigh*

I also hope Mr. Toad is well tucked under the broad bean bin bed.

  1. Your poor magnolia :{ It doesn't generally sound like any season in Ohio is for wimps :}

  2. Kris, I discovered today that the peach tree in the garden is not going to bloom....it has already leafed out and I saw only l 0r 2 blooms before the freeze here. Also my two plums in the orchard, Shiro and Santa Rose have no bloom. Strangely the two peach trees in the orchard are blooming, the apple and the prune plum.

    Strange year!

    1. Last year only one of my 2 crabtrees (in the bed) had any blooms. This year they look like both will bloom. The magnolia still has enough buds that didn't freeze, so will get a decent showing - knock wood. Sorry about the fruit trees. Winter sure screwed things up this year.

  3. Every year we worry about our peach blossoms and late frost. Somehow we always manage to have peaches!

    1. I'm so glad it works out. I've long ago stopped fretting about snow and ice-covered daffs, etc. There's really nothing can be done. At least the long hard winter has kept the fruit trees dormant well into April and are only now budding up. Should be a nice show if we don't get some really severe frosts...

    2. Kris, our lack of a proper winter in England means that none of the fruit trees went into proper dormancy and I've already read some warnings that it will not be a good year for top fruit growers.

    3. Jayne - with the heavy snow and freeze in the southern states this past winter, we, too, face rising food prices across the board.
