A little rain

Finally got a little rain today.  Only .4", but welcome.  September total is now at 1.6" - the driest September since I started recording data in 2006.

At least one of the barrels nearly filled.  I was loathe to have to actually drag out a hose.  I've only done that 2ce this year, and that was when I planted the row of burning bush back by the swing bed.  There was no way I was going to haul water out there.

The rest of this season?  It's all been rainwater - and I think it's one of the reasons the flowers and veg did so well this year.  Even now the pot plants are still outstanding.

The sun is shining and we've got dry and sunny until Friday.  What will I do until then?  Hmmm. Hint: notice anything new in this pic?

  1. If only you could mail some rainwater our way down in SoCalif. We will set up a barrel for the wee bit of rain we hope we will get in December! Such a beautiful garden.

    1. Hello Susan, thanks for visiting. I hope you get some much needed rain soon. I also hope you are not near any of the fires. Take care.

  2. Love when we get 'free' water and yes....so much healthier for the plants. We had a fairly decent summer with more rain than normal and the gardens only got extra water when I transplanted. Of course the containers needed daily watering.
I don't know how much we got the other night, but it just came down in buckets. It was supposed to be a sunny day today..had been looking forward to it as I had projects lined up ......but right now it is pretty dark and it seems it is going to be another rainy day.
So what are you going to do with your sunny days? :)

    1. Expected sunny day today, too. But satellite/radar shows extensive high cloud cover right now. Hoping it will break up. Same here with the potted plants. Good season this year for rain. Will post on project(s) in a day or two. Hoping someone will guess what I'm doing based on the pic. Looks like lots of rainy weather starting early Fri. Weekend sound good to make soup. What projects you up to?

  3. Very dry here too. The last four months have been some of the driest on record.

  4. Yes I hate to use the garden hose when the barrel is full. I have been using out of my fish pond as I shut it down in the winter and need to get the water out of it anyway. It has been filled by free water. I hope you get more rain.

    1. Should be a very rainy weekend. Even now the radar is very colorful and heading this way. I don't want much more rain, though. I'd rather it be dry now that the leaves are falling. Wet leaves are a real pain. My last house - the pond was 2' deep - enough so the fish were okay down there, so no draining in Fall.
