It's all about timing

Around 11:00, I took a walk outside to access the leaf/lawn situation.  I had it in the back of my mind that I could probably get the last of the leaves done and the mower stowed on Tuesday after the front moved through.  Wednesday for sure.

That was the plan....

Next thing you know, it's 2:30 and I'm just getting back in.  Seems last night's rain (.1") melted most of the snow while not softening up the soil too much.

So I wondered.... and I was off.  Yeah a totally different day than I planned.  No TV movies and braising something in the oven.  Nope.  I ended up sucking up more leaves, adjusting the leaf guard fence, hauling out a hefty load of kitchen compost and, finally, shut down the mower, stored it in the shed and took the battery down to the basement where it will 'float charge' until Spring.  *whew*  I'm pooped.

Thank goodness for the leaf fence.  The nabes have no luck getting things done in that regard, so a lot of leaves are still blowing around in their yard.  I just hope they stay there for the winter (and out of my garage!).

I came in, grabbed a cold drink and an ibuprofen and decided to put up a quick post.  As I was putting this together, I checked the radar.  O. M. G. !!

I'm very glad I didn't know this was coming while I was working.  I'm sure I would have let some things go thinking I wouldn't have time to finish.

All I can say is - I'm glad I went with my gut today, instead of following the original game plan.  Looks like anybody east of the Mississippi is going to get really wet and really really windy until Tuesday when the temps tumble again.  Oh yay.  Hang tight, everyone.

  1. Do you ever think about a condo?
    LOL!
That is a lot of yard. Glad you had a good work day.
I ate ice cream and assorted crapola that is now playing with my innards. Some of us never learn. I should have done SOMETHING outside!!
Have a restful evening. You deserve it!

    1. Sure. I think of condos. I think they are glorified apartments. And who needs that? Certainly not an outdoor gardener like MOI! They may appear in my old age, but certainly not now. Yep, got a lot done. Once the mower is stowed and the blower is top dog, I can start MY hibernation fun. Eat wiser, you naughty girl. Take care.

  3. Glad you beat the bad weather! We got an inch of rain overnight out of this same system and it is colder and very windy.

    1. Yep, really cold here too this morning. Yesterday wind gusts over 50 - neighbor's leaves blowing all over the other lawns. A rain barrel took off rolling. Branches down. I hate wind.

  4. I have a major plan many times but then get sidetracked on something else. I guess that as long as I can keep getting things done then I know that progress is good. Sometimes I realize that I should have prioritized and go do the one thing that really does need to get done first. We melted yesterday and today we are cold and have snow flurries.

    1. Yeah, prioritizing is the only way I can deal with everything by myself. I steel myself to ignore smaller projects until big ones in the bag. Sometimes I have to chip away at something big for days when I know I could finish up several small ones in no time. And weather - that's key. I force myself to do something when the weather is accommodating. Hope you get all done what you need before winter. Hang in there. Snow coming here too.

  5. We got 2 and a third inches of rain that first round and it's raining again! i am really learning to go with that gut instinct more and more. It seems the more time I spend outside the more intune I get with it. At least I hope that's the case!

    1. Hope you needed the rain, Leigh. And you are right - the more time you spend outside, the more you learn to read weather. That, and radar. It's what's keeps me on top of things. So glad I don't have to wait for weekends like my working neighbors to keep up the property. Hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving! :-D
