Freezing - outside AND in!

The weather is brutal right now: sub-zero nights, days in the single digits, wind chills in the -20s.  Cripes!

I do stuff around the house (very little actually), watch some TV, movies, keep a pot of something savory on the stove, and, evenutually, gravitate to the iMac.

Back in 2008/9 when I started this blog, there were so many other blogs starting up then too.  I could lose a couple hours just cruising around to my faves.  It was great winter reading.

But the past couple of years many of those blogs have stalled out - no updates for months at a time, if ever.  I have all these blog bookmarks on my browser and still click on a lot of them hoping for new entries.

Alas, I guess blogging has dropped out of favor.  Oh, some bloggers, unfortunatley, have died and the blogosphere is less for it.  Others have found other ways to (maybe Facebook, etc.?) to express themselves.  Bottom line, there are fewer blogs to visit and interact with.  (Actually at least 50-60% of the blogs I visit don't actually interact.  There are few, if any, responses to reader comments and that is sad.)

So here I am, typing away to pass some time while the wind howls and I watch the white whirlwinds outside.  Darn, it's cold!  (Not only that - SOMEone had set the humidistat on the furnace too high and there was so much moisture on the windows and the front door threshhold that they were all iced up this morning. *sigh*)

With a dearth of chatty blog blab at hand, I'm about ready peruse the Apple Store for some diversionary games since there is no break in the weather in the near future.  AND - *shame shame* - I'm out of chocolate....

How about you?  Cabin fever gettin' ya down yet, bunky?

  1. I am actually forcing myself to be completely retired. I quit teaching but I keep getting called in to sub. I have the ability to refuse by machine and I haven't worked all week. I do projects with less vigor and know that I now have another day to get to it. I watch and shoot pictures of birds, I spend a couple of hours at the imac. I check on it all day and I do small stuff all day long. I am cleaning out a store room but I don't remove much per day. I have inside birds to feed and the two dogs are somewhat needy. I too have notice good bloggers who just left. I am in still for as long as I can be. Stay warm, we are getting awful weather.

    1. I'm finally gotten 'into' retirement and the best part is NOT DRIVING or even going outside when the weather is detrimental like this. I worked day after day for 45 years and I'm really enjoying the days/weeks when I decide to do very little. But I have a room needs cleaned out too. So far, I'm ignoring that nagging part of my brain. Your bird pics are always lovely, Larry. Stay warm.

  2. I was just saying to someone the other day that more than half the blogs on my list are now "inactive" . It's discouraging. I love blogging--you find people with similar interests, versus the ones you get "stuck" with in real life, like Crotchety Dolores. I was going to weed out the blogs , but the shortness of my list is depressing. I don't know why so many people quit. And I know what you mean about the interaction. I guess people are too busy with their cellphones-hahahahha,.
Well, you're stuck with me, at least.

And cabin fever? No such thing. I have too many hobbies that are put on hold during gardening season so it's always a relief when I'm "stuck" inside. I did order sheet music from Amazon TWO WEEKS AGO (!!!!) that is due to arrive today and from the looks of the notations, it's gonna take me 4389 months just to figure it out. So, winter is not long enough for me.
Enough of a novel!! Why do I talk so much? Can you imagine poor hubby? He IS the strong , SILENT type. I think I know why now-LOL!

    1. Oh, I have lots of activities I could get into, but, honestly, now that the holidays are over, I'm really liking not doing ANYthing worthwhile for a while. Maybe blogging, like a lot of technology, waxed for a while and is now waning. Like Jayne says below, I DO use other blogs' 'follow lists' to jump around, but what I really miss are the bloggers that I developed a relationship with, a cyber friendship. Jumping around to new blogs doesn't have the same feel for the blogger until you've followed them for a while (not the stalking kind LOL). Stay warm and have fun. Sheet music? I have tons. Want some? LOL

    2. OMG--you play piano as well??
Let's make the list short--what CAN'T you do?
I am terrible at piano, yet like my painting, find myself drawn (ha!) to keep trying. Maybe at some point I'll wake up talented. Ha-that would be rich!

    3. I'm awful at the piano. But I've always thought I should be terrific because --- I can TYPE so well. And you know what? I've met OTHER typists who suck at piano and who are equally confused at that. LOL But really, I suck - and an at least eleventeen other musical instruments I've tried over the decades. (That's why I have so much sheet music.) Delusional, right? Still, it's the enjoyment that really counts, right? RIGHT? *whine*

  3. Yes, a lot of the 'original' blogs we all used to enjoy are no more, but I still seem able to find more active ones than I have time to keep up with! Thank goodness for Feedly which shows me all the updates, I don't have to go clicking on links on the off-chance.

I find the best way to source new blogs is either to click on the Blog-Roll of someone I enjoy reading and see what they've linked to, or I will click on a comment made by someone if I like what they've written. Not all 'commenters' can be tracked down (private profiles for example) and not all have blogs, but it's a good way of stumbling upon new blogs and bloggers.

    1. I still have the strength to click my bookmarks. *heh* And I do use 'follow lists' on other blogs. Glad you are stumbling upon new ones you enjoy. Me, I'm trying to keep some continuity here, but not ruling out new contacts.

Hope your weather is better than ours. Another 3" of snow early this morning and now high winds (20-35mph) whipping it into drifts. Brrrrr.

  4. I do the same thing Jayne does above to check out blogs I might like. I blog mostly for myself as an "E-diary" that I might enjoy reading when I'm too old to remember my life.

Can't do that with FBook, can you?

    1. I, too, use my blog as a homestead journal. It's pretty handy looking up stuff (IF I put the right labels on it from the get go.) "....remember my life." ?? I can't remember my breakfast sometimes. LOL Keep warm. Cuddle up to the pups. :-D

    2. Glad I'm not the only one who keeps a blog purely for personal reasons.

If someone wants to get free product to review, or place adverts then that is their decision, but I know the blogs I return to time & time again are the ones which have remained 'real' and resisted the 'advertorial' posts.

  5. If I want to keep my blog as a journal for the farm, I must do better....even if it is just a couple of sentences. It seems the less I blog, the less I want to blog.....strange.

Since I discovered ROKU, between reading and instant streaming, I have no time on my hands to get bored. I even have Max addicted now and he can actually use the remote on the player....next step will be to have him select what he wants to watch.

    Keep warm!

    1. I'm not familiar with ROKU. I do have Apple TV, but so far I've not had to resort to those links to HULU, etc. The Uverse is keeping me entertained these days.

You are right. The less you blog, the less you WANT to blog. I hope you keep blogging. I'd miss all that farm/baking action! You keep warm, too.

  6. It is sad that so many blogs have gone by the wayside. I know some folks love their facebook but I barely have time to blog, let alone that. But that's why I like blogging. Less fast-paced which means I can keep up with comments and visits. I like that. Stay warm Kris!
