fat Pat weather

Blustery "fat Pat" weather - wind & rain
The bloated remnants of hurricane Patricia (merged with a Texas disturbance) arrived last night with blustery winds and rain.  Not as much rain as I expected (so far only .75"), but the winds (22+mph) are really doing a number on the leaves. There's more of the same due all day, but the view outside is really nice.  Very November-ish.

I'm afraid I'm not having much luck with leaf harvest this season. The winds are from the ESE - so my hickory/birch leaves are blowing across the street.    I've only gotten 2 beds (the turnaround zin borders - sassafras leaves) and just part of the front bay window/ hosta bed  (so few ash leaves due to dying trees) covered at this point.

There's still the privacy fence and swing beds needing leaf mulch.  I just hope the winds change direction before all the leaves are down.

Temp at 50F today.  A 'raw' day and great for inside activities.  What?  Well, if you've been following the Chef's Page, yours truly is going to try another turkey.  Fingers crossed.

  1. It's blustery and rainy here as well. We had chicken pot pie for lunch and that seemed so perfect for this weather.
Sorry your leaves are blowing nilly willy. You'll have to resort to leaf theft!!! I can't imagine not tucking in my worms for the long winter without a terrific supply of chopped leaves. Horrors!
Hubby has been wonderful about doing my garden for me this fall . It bothers me beyond belief to see him in there ( MY garden, durn it!!!) but I'm afraid I've had to let him. NO outdoor activity at all for me this fall. I'm so bummed. And grateful for such a good man. Happy Fall, Kris. Hope you get more leaves

    1. Dang it! You've missed some good weather Sept/Oct out of town and now sick. Sure hope you are feeling better these days. Sometimes it is just best to let go when you need to, like I did in 2013. You're lucky having a good man. Really. Take care.

  2. I am surrounded by neighbors who also have trees, so if I loose my leaves the neighbors fill in the gaps. I like to leave the leaf material on the beds too. I think they weather the winter better. You photos are two great views.

    1. Thing is, only the golf course to the east of me - pine trees, no leaves. I'm not worried though. I know some nabe is gonna bag their leaves and I'll offer to 'take care' of them. ;-D

  3. You know where all my leaves go.....where ere they fall! I might actually mow some and throw them on the garden fence.

The sun is shining to day but it is very cool. Perfect fall day.

    1. We've had a really nice Fall: Sept & Oct were mostly dry, bright and beautiful, the kind of fall you think you remember from younger days. Really have enjoyed it. Should be mild this coming week too. Good thing, fat Pat brought down tons of leaves. Need to mow/mulch. Not a bad task in good weather.
