Pretty quiet ....

It's a lovely time of year - Thanksgiving is over and Christmas hype is weeks away.  (Around here Christmas/New Year is barely a weeklong affair.  Period.)  Time to catch up on housework, paperwork, and spending some quality time with a bloated DVR from months of program capture.

We've been having some spectacular night skies what with Venus, Jupiter, Mars, the Moon and even a comet to grace early morning risings.  And when the sun does come up (late, oh so late this time of year) the skies are magnificent.

Inside, the kitchen window is already hosting something green - a celery heel is sprouting new leaves for January soups.

And downstairs, the saved geraniums, black & blue salvias, a dozen English lavender seedlings and some schefflera cuttings are snug under lights for the season.

So while I try to adjust to this years time change (boy, it's been hard this go 'round), I'm doing as little as possible.

Still taking mom to PT 2ce a week and that makes for a good excuse for some good coffee time after.  She was encouraged to re-up for a whole year so we can go as weather permits this winter.  That way she doesn't lose all that she's gained and have to start over again in Spring.  Beside, at 91 she's quite pleased to be told how she's an inspiration to other seniors at the center.  Fact is, she's really enjoying the machines and how she's been feeling these days.

Otherwise, I'm hanging in there - just on the down-low right now.  Hope y'all are getting a chance to kick back before the holiday rush.  Take care.  Back soon.

  1. I really like your starting station. I brought my whole geranium plants inside and I will before Christmas gets starts from them and get rid of the rest. Beautiful sky.

    1. I cut back my gerries sharply, potted them up and left them outside until they'd rooted well, then brought them downstairs for winter. The B&Bs were already growing in those pots so I just cut them down to nubs. Wish I could find some onion seed to start for next year's plants. I'll keep looking.

  2. Your geraniums are looking really healthy under the lights. Mine are in the upstairs bathroom shivering in the cold and looking horrible. I'll bring them back into the warmth after the new year, but for now, they'll have to deal with it. The rest of the house is a Christmas nightmare. I put the stuff up day after Thanksgiving and rip everything down day after Christmas. I so love the lights and so I try to enjoy them for a full month.
Enjoy your full DVR. Tis the season for resting up / Recovering , whatever. And just think, in only 2 weeks , the days get longer...

    1. I used to do "Christmas in a blender" when I was working and entertaining, but when it's only me (and sometimes Mom), there's no reason to splash out. (You saw on the household page that Xmas got purged this year.) I do put up a tree in the bay window and a wreath, but that's it. Glad you get so much enjoyment out of the decorations! Still mild outside this week. Wonder what kind of trouble I can get into.... *heh*

  3. Beautiful sky picture.

Aren't you glad for the slowdown? The plants under the lights look very good. As you know I am geranium challenged so I really appreciate seeing healthy well-grown ones.

    1. About the only thing about the time change is that sunrise comes much later - when I'm awake and have had coffee. Yeah, the 4-year-old geraniums are doing their thing. I see lots of buds forming too. Will look nice in the bay window in January. Yep, enjoying the slowdown. Hope you are too.
