Oh, this is just ducky - not

This morning I caught these two under the bird feeder.  It seemed to annoy the crows no end and the cawing and squawking was quite fierce.

This evening I heard the cawing again and managed to catch a pic of these two who had returned to forage under the feeder.  I'm going to have to nip this in the bud because ducks can tear up a lot of tender shoots when left to their own devices.

I've already had to deal with ducklings in the garage a couple of times since I've been here and don't want to have to again.

*CLAP CLAP*    SHOOOOOOO!

  1. But they're so cute!! However, never having had ducks in my garden I can only imagine the damage.

    1. Interesting to read about all the different garden pests across the world. Ours are snails and cats. I long for electified borders that would put an end to cat fouling!

    2. At my last house duck totally destroyed my fish pond. They would eat all the plants, turn over all the pots and churn up all the sediment, choking the pump. Then they would munch on young veg plants. Grrrr.

    3. Linda - oh I'm sooo with you on the cat fouling! Loose pets are the worst in a garden.

    4. Linda, I'm with you on the 'cat problem'. Recently saw one of our neighbours' cats in the garden (although I didn't catch him "doing anything"). I mentioned this to the owner a few days later and she just shrugged and said "oh well, that's cats".

I am afraid my edit button had cased working because I smiled and said "If I had let Ollie come into your garden and sh*t everywhere I would have been prosecuted" and she went pale and apologised - a lot. Won't stop the problem but it sure made me feel better!

  2. Well, I have never had that problem on the farm! You may have ti withhold the bird seed for a while.

    1. I would do me no good to not feed the birds. The neighbors have a full feeder too, and they put out corn! The ducks will just find that over here they will be harassed when they show up. Maybe they'll get the hint.

  3. Get the darn ducks out of the habit of wrecking your garden before they start, not only will they destroy your plants but green sh*t everywhere just isn't funny.

Similar problem here early today - saw the LARGE peacock walking outside the fence with three others following. The peahens and a juvenile male are all the size of swans and will do so much damage if they get into the habit of coming into our garden. The owner doesn't give a rats @&$% and there are no by-laws to make him keep the animals on his own property . . .

    1. Honestly, it's animals belonging to people that make more trouble than the wildlife. Some folks are so irresponsible! Don't envy you the peacocks. Here I've got to contend with flocks of Canada geese. Talk about sh*t everywhere.....
