They run, scramble, wrestle, share food and seem to find great comfort in each other.
Perhaps other squirrels have best buds, but it's difficult to tell. This pair really stand out though and I look for them every day.

Jeph - I'm quite sure the grey was adopted. Here the greys, blacks and fox squirrels get along great. Even the red squirrel is tolerated (the most belligerent of them all). Click the pic to see what's growing.

Birds adopt any egg dropped into their nests. There are lots of cases where cats have nursed/adopted bunnies, a crow adopted a kitten, and so many stories that I'm not surprised the grey squirrel baby found a home with the blacks. Just fills the heart, no?

ReplyDeleteOh, there is a lot of scuffling, chasing, posturing, etc. and it's fascinating to watch the interaction. Did you know that black squirrels are really grey squirrels with different coloring?
